WrestleMania season is well and truly on, with the event edging closer than ever to its scheduled dates of April 1 and 2. That also means that WWE will be planning lots of surprises and moments to fit the occasion, especially at the top of the card.

Speaking of Mania, Steve Austin made his much-awaited and praised return to the ring at last year’s show in a winning effort against Kevin Owens. However, for WrestleMania 39, things might just be a whole lot bigger if Austin is up for the challenge.

Fightful Sean Sapp has reported that WWE offered Austin a WrestleMania match against Roman Reigns for a ridiculous amount of money:

“Fightful Select has learned that a pitch was made internally for a “huge opponent” for Stone Cold Steve Austin, which Fightful Select was told was Roman Reigns.

We’re told at the very least, Austin’s camp was approached with the possibility of it happening, which was said to have been for “enormous” money.

In the Summer of 2022, Fightful reported that Austin was approached with a deal that wasn’t as appealing from a financial standpoint.

Those that we spoke to in WWE claimed they hadn’t heard back on whether the more recent offer was accepted or not, and another source indicated that another “big name” was offered to Austin in the months prior.”

With The Rock seemingly not ready for The Showcase of the Immortals, Austin is seemingly a great left-field opponent for Reigns, if WWE is already not looking at the most obvious answer in Cody Rhodes.

Ringside News had also exclusively reported in December that the company was pitching alternatives for Reigns’ opponent.

What is undeniable is that Austin is in great shape, and he has the drawing power for a match of this magnitude against Reigns, so it remains to be seen what happens over the coming weeks, especially at Royal Rumble.
