Many sports have long allowed wagering, and it appears that WWE will soon follow suit. Certain precautions are being taken in case the rumored move occurs because pro wrestling is scripted and predetermined.

According to CNBC’s Alex Sherman, WWE is pressing for the legalization of betting on specific matchups. To keep match outcomes confidential, the Stamford-based promotion reportedly collaborates with the accounting firm EY (Ernst & Young).

According to the report, WWE executives suggested that decisions would be made months in advance and that wrestlers themselves would not be informed of the decision until just before their performances.

“Allowing gambling on certain WWE matches would alter how matches are produced – and how storylines are created. In discussions about how gambling in wrestling could work, WWE executives have proposed that scripted results of matches be locked in months ahead of time, according to people familiar with the matter. The wrestlers themselves wouldn’t know whether they were winning or losing until shortly before a match takes place.”

Professional wrestling gambling might be challenging because the outcomes are already known. Yet, it appears that the business is seeking for the most effective strategy to incorporate it soon.
