Sasha Banks has been in the news almost constantly since walking out on WWE and Vince McMahon during the May 16, 2022 episode of Raw. With the information that she is set to appear for NJPW at Wrestle Kingdom 17 in Tokyo Dome on January 4, 2023, fans are even more eager to know what is in store for the Legit Boss.
Banks heading to Japan will be her first appearance for a wrestling promotion in more than seven months. However, although WWE has been more open to its stars working with other companies under Triple H, contrary to rumors flying around, the former Raw and SmackDown women’s champion is not inking a deal with New Japan Pro Wrestling through WWE.
This news comes through Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, and he also claimed that New Japan believes that Banks will become a free agent ahead of its biggest show of the year. He said:
“This Sasha Banks deal is not through WWE, so if the appearance isn’t blocked legally by WWE, it means she will be a free agent by that date. WWE can still sign her but NJPW believes she is free and clear by 1/4.”
Such has been the buzz around Banks’ impending arrival in NJPW that IWGP heavyweight champion Jay White said he’d meet and ask her if she’d like to join the Bullet Club.
