Sasha Banks is rumored to be NJPW-bound during the new year, and this has raised many pertinent questions, the most important one being whether she is free to take bookings outside of her WWE contract. Fans have been looking to get an update from The Legit Boss for some time, but she’s kept mum on the issue so far.
I think some of you owe Raj Giri an apology…
Fightful Select just confirmed that WWE ended their relationship with Sasha Banks during the Summer of 2022, just like Raj reported.

Now using her real name, Mercedes Varnado, news recently came to light that Sasha Banks will be present at Wrestle Kingdom 17, New Japan Pro-Wrestling’s marquee show, at the Tokyo Dome on January 4. Although it is not clear if she is done with WWE, a new report from Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful (h/t Sunil Joseph of Ringside News) claimed that she is free to take bookings from January 1 and that her departure from WWE was known for quite some time:
Fightful said –
“It was confirmed to Fightful that Mercedes’ WWE exit was negotiated ‘months ago,’ likely when Raj Giri of Wrestling Inc. reported as much. However, WWE has yet to officially confirm this, and she remains listed on the company’s official website.”
Giri had reported in June that the former Raw and SmackDown women’s champion had been let go by WWE after walking out of an episode of Monday Night Raw with tag team partner Naomi over creative differences. Although WWE has not confirmed this bit of news, if this is the case, Banks will have no shortage of options considering she is one of the biggest stars in pro wrestling.
Is Sasha Banks going to WWE or NJPW or AEW?
