Sammy Guevara and Tay Conti/Melo have been stripped of the AAA Mixed Tag Team championships. The announcement was made by Konnan tonight. They won the titles at TripleMania XXX in April of this year and held them for 243 days.

It might be interesting that the announcement came from Konnan. He’s lately been very critical of AEW, having joined voices like Jim Cornette and Eric Bischoff in calling into question, many decisions made by AEW. Is the stripping of Sammy Guevara and Tay Conti related?

It’s hard to be sure. Tay Conti was featured in a match at AEW’s New Year’s Smash. Perhaps AAA wanted them to defend their titles in AAA?

Profightdb has that the last time Mixed Tag titles were defended was on a dark match at AEW All Out in September. Since then, the titles haven’t been defended at all. Tammy Guevara and Tay Conti haven’t competed in an AAA event since April. They haven’t even wrestled together as a team since All Out. Perhaps this is a case of AAA taking back their property.

What’s next for Sammy Guevara and Tay Conti? What about the AAA Mixed tag titles? What is this a sign of?
