Even if Mercedes Mone’s NJPW Wrestle Kingdom 17 debut wasn’t perfect, the former Sasha Banks may not be to blame for that.
At the January 4th event, Mone’ made her professional debut by going up against IWGP Women’s Champion KAIRI, who had just defeated Tam Nakano to successfully defend her title.
The former RAW Women’s Champion executed a Gory Bomb on KAIRI, which did not look good. Bryan Alverez described what happened on Wrestling Observer Live. He stated:
“What happened was, she was going to do the Gory Special and as she spun her around, KAIRI was supposed to land on her feet to take the DDT. And for whatever reason, and I actually have some conspiracy theories and heard some too.
“For whatever reason, KAIRI spun around to her knees, so there was no head to grab for a DDT and so Mercedes had to fall on her back and do the move. But it was not her fault, ok. So, I want to make that clear cause I’m a fair man.”
KAIRI vs. Mone’ has been confirmed for NJPW Battle in the Valley on February 18 in San Jose, California.
