Over the past few months, there has been a lot of speculation about the Rock featuring at WrestleMania 39. In addition, there are also reports suggesting that the Rock might appear as a surprise entrant at the Men’s Royal Rumble match and ultimately go on to win it.

The plan is clear as WWE has thought of the Rock as the one to dethrone Roman Reigns who has not been pinned for over three years. However, the Rock vs Roman Reigns is not locked yet as there is a problem with the former’s availability due to his other commitments.

According to the latest report in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, the match between the two Samoan wrestlers is definitely on the cards. However, WWE has its backup plans in place if the main event does not materialize. It also stated the Rock is likely to make up his mind just before the Royal Rumble.  Dave Meltzer stated –

“Here’s the situation. If Dwayne Johnson is on Mania, he’s wrestling Reigns. That is not off the boards at all, nor is it a lock. So there have to be back-up plans put in place. Right now if anyone says that there is a main event locked in for Mania, they are dead wrong because nothing is for certain. Basically the idea is Dwayne Johnson has to make up his mind, and most likely a final date would best be just before the Rumble so they could start main event plans at the Rumble show.”

Just three days ago we reported that on Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer explained how The Rock is far from guaranteed due to his commitments to the XFL.

“Am I saying he’s not going to do it? No, I’m not saying that at all. And if he’s doing it, wow, you have him, Austin, and Cena all on the same show – or the same weekend because they’ll split them up, obviously.”
