Sasha Banks’ return to pro wrestling via her NJPW/Stardom debut at last week’s Wrestle Kingdom 17 as Mercedes Mone had the internet buzzing like never before. One section of fans had even more reason to celebrate, as she could possibly now appear for AEW, who enjoy a strong working relationship with New Japan Pro Wrestling.
However, there will always be skeptics, and in this case, it is Konnan. The lucha-libre legend was speaking on a recent episode of his Keepin It 100 podcast, where he was unsure what would happen to the former WWE superstar when the excitement from her debut dies down:
“Here’s my problem with AEW…I’m just afraid, and all you’ve got to do is look at their past history, that [Moné is] going to be there, be a big deal for a few couple weeks and then they won’t know what to do with her just like they didn’t know what to do with 80 percent of the stars that they brought in.”
Any potential appearance for Mone on AEW’s Dynamite will have to wait till Wednesday. However, she is set to challenge KAIRI for her IWGP women’s championship at NJPW Battle in the Valley on February 18.
