At WrestleMania 38, the wrestling world was shocked to see Stone Cold Steve Austin wrestle a match. Perhaps even more surprising, was his opponent. Kevin Owens. Austin return rumors existed for years. There were many names thrown out, but the big 3 were John Cena, Roman Reigns, and CM Punk. No one expected it to be KO.

However, someone believed it absolutely should be Kevin Owens. This is what KO told the NY post about it, “I still don’t have a full grasp on how that happened. All I know is I was told by several people, from Steve to Vince McMahon to Bruce Prichard, it couldn’t have been anybody other than you — meaning me — with Steve. I’m not sure who suggested it, who asked for it, or how it came about. One day I’ll find out. But the point is that it’s extremely flattering to me that those three all thought I was the best choice. There’s really no higher compliment than that for me.”

“It doesn’t get any better than that. I said it the day after the match: It’s all downhill from here.”

No one knows who it was, but Steve Austin on his podcast has had nothing but high praise for Kevin Owens for years. Whenever Steve Austin spoke of KO, it was always how great he was. Perhaps Austin himself requested for it to be KO.

Whatever the case, no matter what happens in Kevin Owens’ career, even if Austin wrestles again… Kevin Owens will always have Steve Austin’s first match in 21 years, and possibly Austin’s true final match.

If I was a wrestler, I’d love to be able to say that. What did you think of the match?
