Pro Wrestling NOAH’s January 1st New Year Event just got more legit, as the company announced on Twitter that former GHC Heavyweight champion KENTA will make his return to the promotion during the event. The NJPW superstar will team with Naomichi Marufuji to challenge Satoshi Kojima and Takashi Sugiura for the GHC tag team championship.

During Wednesday’s Pro Wrestling NOAH show that aired from Tokyo, Marufuji challenged champions Sugiura and Kojima. NOAH made the bout official for its The New Year 2023 event on Sunday, January 1, which will emanate from the Nippon Budokan in Tokyo, Japan.

The match will also be the first time Marufuji & KENTA are teaming up since May 2014. They were pretty successful in their initial run, winning the GHC junior heavyweight tag team titles and being voted Tag Team of the Year in The Wrestling Observer Newsletter awards in 2003 and 2004.

The duo has also battled each other in singles competition 13 times, including Marufuji’s 20th Anniversary show in 2018. For those unaware, they will reunite at the same NOAH event featuring Keiji Mutoh versus Shinsuke Nakamura.

Kenny Omega Thanks KENTA following Dynamite Spot

At one point, Omega bit the arm of Pac and would hit Punk’s finisher the GTS in front of the Chicago crowd.

On Twitter, Omega thanked KENTA for the move and referenced both men’s tenures as part of the Bullet Club.
