John Cena is back, announcing live via satellite or by recording. He will tag up with Kevin Owens and face Roman Reigns and Sami Zayn the December 30th episode of SmackDown.
Kevin Owens and John Cena do have some history. When KO came to the main roster, he faced Cena at Elimination Chamber 2015, where KO won. They had a series of battles after that, but have never actually tagged together.
They come together as KO has history with Sami Zayn dating back to the indies, in promotions like Ring of Honor, and PWG. It seems they always find a way to be against each other in the end. So it’s really a combination of a major feud of modern WWE. John Cena vs Roman Reigns, and the indy feud of the ages, Sami vs KO.
The Rock vs Roman Reigns is supposed to be on the horizon, but you have to admit, Cena vs Reigns III at WrestleMania would be a good plan b. It should also be noted that had Cena not been booked for this match, he would have broken a streak. This would have been his first full year without wrestling at least one match in WWE, since 2001.
Where does it go from here? Is this the kickstart of a feud between Roman and Cena for 2023?
