Switchblade Jay White is slated to quit (NJPW) New Japan Pro Wrestling after his contract expires, according to those inside the organization, and insiders over at Fightful Select.
The former IWGP World Heavyweight Champion is reportedly a target for both WWE and All Elite Wrestling, but WWE sources felt sure that they would land him.
That’s far from official, though, since it was observed by sources across several organizations that they can’t formally contact him until his contract expires. There is no certainty he will depart NJPW before that occurs.
On February 11, White is booked for a “loser leaves Japan” match in Osaka, Japan versus Hikuleo. The outcome of the bout is uncertain because WWE has long shown interest in Hikuleo.
However, we are aware that the NJPW roster members think Jay White wants to spend the foreseeable future in America.
White reportedly told Fightful that he was heavily solicited by WWE in early 2021, and that the process only picked up speed after that.
White wrestled for IMPACT Wrestling and AEW throughout his time with NJPW, but neither organization had a contract with him. Prior to the year 2021, White told us he had never been solicited by AEW, but he has since liked his time there.
Is Jay White a big loss for NJPW?
