The AEW roster is loaded with superstars who are incredibly gifted. However, some prominent individuals, in the opinion of many fans, are not being used to their full potential by Tony Khan. One particular star, who is apparently very unhappy with his portrayal, appears to be over Khan’s organization.
Brian Cage received all the plaudits for his work with organizations like Lucha Underground and IMPACT Wrestling, to mention a couple, The Machine became well-known on the independent circuit thanks to his extraordinary strength and agility. In 2020, Tony Khan promoted Cage to FTW Champion and brought him to AEW.
Ricky Starks, however, ended Cage’s run as champion. He was reportedly dissatisfied with his booking at the time.
However, we now know The Machine is now the Six-Man Tag Team Champion for Ring of Honor alongside Kaun and Toa Liona after Tony Khan purchased the company.
At the Supercard of Honor pay-per-view event on March 31, 2023, the three men will defend their ROH Six-Man Tag Team Championship against AR Fox, Metalik, and Blake Christian. According to the most recent AEW Dark & Dark: Elevation tapings, Cage will make his final appearance for ROH and AEW at the show.
During the most recent filmings at Universal Studios, The Gates of Agony (Kaun and Toa Liona) fought The Qrown (Leonis and Maximus). One thing to take note of is the absence of Kaun and Liona’s titles when they first entered the ring. Additionally, Brian Cage wasn’t present for the match at ringside.
Kaun and Lion’s appearance at the tapings clearly suggests that they will lose their titles to AR Fox, Metalik, and Blake Christian because the tape is scheduled to run sometime after Supercard of Honor. Additionally, it seems that Brian Cage won’t be around following Supercard of Honor.
Although nothing is confirmed is this is the case this is certainly yet another blunder by AEW for pre-taping shows after PPVs with stars without their respective titles.
We really hope this is a “work” as Brian Cage is a tremendous talent and will be huge loss to AEW.
