Eric Bischoff argued in a recent podcast, that wrestling, even AEW is more mainstream now than it was even in his time. He cited the rights fees, and the fact that weekly Wrestling Programming airs on FOX, a free network.

This is what Eric Bischoff said, “You look at rights fees for WWE and AEW. Look at the global footprint of WWE and how far the professional industry has evolved and become not only mainstream in terms of television and primetime. What we’re seeing on Fox network. Who would have thought 20 years ago we’d be watching professional wrestling live on Fox? It’s mind-boggling…It’s such a big step for the industry.

Eric Bischoff continued, “The same for AEW. I never got a nickel for licensing fees. I never got a dime. [WCW had a deal with Turner that only included ad revenue, not TV rights] I see that now, and it indicates to me at least, that the professional wrestling product is so mainstream now. That it’s going to be here for a long, long time.”

Everyone seems to want a piece of the wrestling pie. Warner Bros today seems to want to find a way for AEW to fit into it’s scheme of wrestling. Flashback 22 years, and AOL Time Warner couldn’t get out of the wrestling business fast enough.

Eric Bischoff often states some negative things about wrestling. It’s nice to see a more positive spin out of Eric for a chance.

Do you think wrestling today is healthier than it ever has been? What’s your take on what Eric Bischoff said?
