Triple h, the current head of creative, hasn’t always been met with so much universal acclaim. Around 20 years ago, we were in the middle of what was dubbed “The Reign of Terror.” When Hunter was the champion off and on from 2002 to 2005. Some of those matches were not well received and HHH had been accused of burying people. Especially WCW stars.

Triple H faced Scott Steiner at the 2003 Royal Rumble in what many consider an absolutely god awful match. The bout was so bad, that some fans accused him of deliberately sandbagging Scott Steiner, making him look bad.

This is what Jim Ross said on Grillin JR, about that. “No. Hell no. Triple H is not gonna go out there and have a stinker on purpose. No, look, it’s gonna sound bad. He’s a professional. So he, his ego, and I say that in a good way. He’s got a lot of pride. He’s not gonna go out there and stink up the joint on purpose. It’s just he couldn’t do any more with Scotty [Scott Steiner]. And they needed to call some audibles and one of those audibles would have been to shorten the match.”

They had a rematch at No Way Out 2003. Might have been slightly better, maybe? Triple H didn’t get a lot of positive reception for that one either. Hunter today is a far cry from the Hunter of Evolution. For the most part, gone is the heat that once surrounded HHH like a pool of lava.

What do you think? Is Jim Ross wrong? Did Triple H sandbag Scott Steiner?
