Darby Allin won the AEW TNT Championship tonight on Dynamite. He defeated Samoa Joe for the championship. Darby was the 4th ever TNT champion, and the three before him were Cody Rhodes twice, and Mr. Brodie Lee (Rest in Peace). You can’t go back further in the lineage and find someone who is still in AEW.
Darby Allin went roughly two years without holding a title in AEW. He had many opportunities but they just didn’t happen. As of tonight, he’s a two-timeme AEW TNT Champion. He ended Samoa Joe’s 46-day reign as champion, which may signal Joe to become fully committed to Ring of Honor.
Where does Darby Allin go from here? Miro defeated him for the TNT title back in 2021. Does Miro come back and get a shot? Do they pull something unexpected and have Sting challenge him? Sting has never held a title in AEW either, and their close connection suggests that a match could be viable.
What is clear is the new champion, faces a new title reign. The field of challengers is a lot different in AEW now than it was two years ago. He’s got former champions like Wardlow to contend against. A host of new AEW stars would like to take the title from him.
Perhaps this might be a short reign for Darby Allin? Or maybe he’ll be a champion for a long time coming? What about Joe? Does he get a rematch before going full Ring of Honor? Are you happy with this title change?
