Athena has won the Ring of Honor Women’s Champion today on Final Battle. She defeated the previous champion, Mercedes Martinez. This victory comes after some criticism of Athena’s booking in AEW, as well as Athena herself. She was charged by many fans with being dangerously stiff in the ring. Likewise, other fans complained that she was shuffled done to AEW Dark.

Mercedes Martinez won the title at Dynamite, and became the second official women’s champion for Ring of Honor under AEW’s banner. Deonna Purrazzo was the ROH women’s champion, but was not under AEW contract and was not interested in signing. She agreed to a one off, to lose the title back in may.

Mercedes was the longest reigning of the four women’s champions for ROH at 220 days. Now the question is, will Athena one day be the longest reigning champion?

Congratulations to Athena for her title victory at Final Battle!
