All Elite Wrestling is reportedly returning to Universal Studios in Orlando, Florida on Saturday, December 17.
According to Fightful Select who leaked the news today. These will be the first AEW Dark tapings in Orlando since August.
The promotion was previously taping there every 4-6 weeks from September 2021 – August 2020 with 10 tapings held, but that was changed when Rampage went live on the road over the last few months, and AEW taped Dark in front of bigger crowds at these shows.
There’s no word yet on whether they will return to that format in early 2023 or keep the tapings at Universal Studios.
AEW Cost Cutting Measures Reported Last Month
Last month we reported that AEW has been using a unique method to save on travel and production costs.
AEW has now been regularly filming segments for talent ahead of time if they’re not planned for the following week’s television. The main reason is to save on travel costs, as well as making it easier on the performers. Wrestlers no longer have to fly in for two days of television tapings for a one-minute backstage segment.
This isn’t the first time AEW has experimented with this process. It was done last year with the Young Bucks and the Hardys. This has also been done with PAC, who travels regularly from the UK. The segment featuring Keith Lee and Swerve Strickland from the October 18th edition of Dynamite in Cincinnati, OH was actually filmed the week prior in Toronto.
Its suspected this is another way to be able to keep costs down and stop flying 20-30 + talent round to various Rampage Live Shows
