AEW Stars Darby Allin and Sting are headed to Japan as Pro Wrestling NOAH announced that the popular AEW star will team with The Great Muta and Sting for Muta’s retirement match.

Opponents for the bout have not been announced. Muta’s retirement match is set to take place on January 22. This will mark Allin’s debut in Japan.

Muta (Keiji Mutoh) is currently on his retirement tour, which will end on February 23, 2023, while January 22 marks his final bout as The Great Muta. WWE star Shinsuke Nakamura will wrestle The Great Muta in a singles match at NOAH’s The New Year 2023 event on January 1 at Budokan Hall.

Muta had his final NJPW match at NJPW x STARDOM Historic X-Over. On the two-hour AEW Rampage: Grand Slam episode, AEW Stars Sting and Allin wrestled Buddy Matthews and Brody King. Muta appeared to help Sting and Allin win the match by misting Matthews. After the match, the two shook hands and hugged.

Keiji Muto, also known as The Great Muta, has been one of the most revolutionary professional wrestlers for over 30 years. Despite this, the legendary Japanese performer never competed for the WWE. While Muta did find success in WCW, made sporadic appearances in TNA, and most recently appeared at AEW’s “Grand Slam Rampage” in September, the top wrestling company in North America is absent from his historic resume as an in-ring performer.
