Mercedes Varnado (AEW Sasha Banks) is back in the news, as it has been reported that NJPW is set to bring her over for its prestigious Wrestle Kingdom 17 come January. It was PWInsider who reported that New Japan Pro Wrestling might rope her in for the show, although it is not known if she will be seen on camera.
Fightful also reported a few weeks back that WrestleCade had tried to book her, but they were told that the former Raw and SmackDown Women’s Champion was not taking wrestling bookings until after January 1. With this NJPW news, it seems that wrestling fans will get to see more of Banks, meaning the rumors that she may land in AEW are growing.

There are multiple angles that The Legit Boss can be a part of she is to debut with AEW. One is for her to debut as the wrestler Bow Wow brings in to face the undefeated TBS Champion Jade Cargill, while the other involves Banks being revealed as Saraya’s mystery partner as they battle Jamie Hayter and Dr. Britt Baker, DMD on January 11 in Los Angeles.
Fightful also reported that AEW talent was apparently excited about working with Sasha Banks, as she could serve as another “anchor” for the women’s division and help boost viewership. She could have several dream matches as well, which would only serve to help the company in the long run.
Regareding her WWE future, Dave Meltzer had reported a few months back that talks between the two parties stalled because they could not agree on monetary terms.
