AEW Dynamite preview: Six-time champion surprisingly enters battle royale, Cody Rhodes to turn on WWE Hall of Famer after being revealed as mastermind? (December 8, 2021)
What does AEW have in store for us this week?

Whether it’s MJF and CM Punk’s rip-roaring war of words or Cody Rhodes and Andrade’s flaming table spot, AEW has managed to grab eyeballs over the last couple of weeks.

This week’s AEW Dynamite will emanate from the USB arena in Long Island, New York. The company will continue its build-up towards the upcoming ‘Winter is Coming’ event which takes place on December 15th. Considering the way last week’s flagship show ended, several notable question marks must be left hanging for wrestling fans.

It will be interesting to see if AEW sheds light on the situation. Beyond that, the company has lined up multiple high-stakes matches on this week’s episode. Let’s get down to what fans can expect from Dynamite this Wednesday.

#6 AEW’s CM Punk enters Dynamite Diamond ring battle royale and lasts alongside MJF

CM Punk & MJF’s entire promo segment from last week’s #AEWDynamite averaged 1,001,000 Viewers & 480K in 18-49

CM Punk entering the Diamond Ring Battle Royale could be a long shot, but it makes complete sense considering his ongoing feud with MJF. The latter has a strong foothold in the 12-man battle royale, as he has emerged as the winner on both previous occasions.

So far, AEW has announced only four participants for the match, which includes the entire team TAZ and the current Dynamite Diamond ring holder Friedman. The remaining eight competitors are likely to be unveiled before the bout commences.

I am gonna start hoping that CM Punk will cost MJF the Dynamite diamond ring next week. #AEWDynamite

The prospect of seeing surprising names in that slot has created excitement among the AEW universe. One cannot entirely rule out The Straight Edge Superstar appearing in the Dynamite Ring Battle Royale.

Fans will go berserk if Punk enters the match and lasts till the end alongside MJF. This would be the most fitting way to book a high-stakes clash between the two for the Diamond Ring.

#5 Cody Rhodes revealed as the mastermind behind flaming table spot against Andrade on AEW Dynamite

Is this go away heat? SO self aware…🔥😘 https://t.co/fhFoUmPvJb

Will AEW’s Cody Rhodes demand answers from his wife, Brandi Rhodes, regarding the flaming table spot? Last week, Brandi surprisingly showed up during a street fight between Rhodes and Andrade in the main event of Dynamite. She set the table on fire beneath her husband, who had Andrade set up on the top rope for a reverse suplex.

It was a sight to behold when Cody Rhodes executed the said maneuver on the Mexican star to crash onto a flaming table. Though his back caught a little fire, he still managed to pin the former NXT Champion.

While Brandi Rhodes executed the entire angle, her husband may have been the real mastermind. The couple could come out on AEW Dynamite this week to elaborate on the situation. The American Nightmare’s potential heel turn has become a widely discussed topic, knowing that fans have grown tired of his babyface persona.

Imagine the company pulling off the biggest swerve this week by having Cody and Brandi embrace a heel turn. Not only that, but Cody can also assault his mentor Arn Anderson to signify his new character. A segment like this would generate an intense reaction from fans.

#4 What’s next for Sting and Darby Allin on AEW Dynamite?

Sting and Darby Allin are now 5-0 as a tag team.

With the Winter is Coming edition just around the corner, one would be wondering what the company has in store for Sting and Darby Allin. The face-painted duo defeated The Gunn Club last week to remain undefeated in the tag team division.

The duo’s win-streak currently stands at 5. Sting and Allin may not have been placed in the top five tag teams rankings yet, but the company could put them in line for a shot at the gold. It seems a far-off possibility, given that Jungle Boy and Luchasaurus are already in title contention.

But considering that Sting will have the first anniversary of his AEW debut at Winter is Coming, the company is bound to book him for another match. Tony Khan, via Tony Schiavone, could announce The Lucha Bros’ next title defense against The Jurassic Express and the face-painted stars. A trio match would add massive hype ahead of the December 15th episode.

#3 Bryan Danielson vs. John Silver on AEW Dynamite

Tomorrow I get my revenge for the Dark Order #AEWDynamite https://t.co/LrulebpSYN

Bryan Danielson will look to keep his winning streak alive when he faces John Silver in a singles match on AEW Dynamite. It will be Bryan’s final stop before he challenges Hangman Page for the AEW World Championship at Winter is Coming.

So far, The American Dragon has defeated Evil Uno, Colt Cabana, and Alan Angels in what has seemed like a path of destruction against the Dark Order members.

Silver will have an uphill task, as he will be eyeing revenge on behalf of his friends. Though the outcome of this bout seems somewhat predictable, Silver’s agility and Bryan’s tendency to bring the best in his opponents would make this a must-see battle.

#2 Riho vs. Jamie Hayter on AEW Dynamite

Team DMD is back on track and THIS WEDNESDAY on #AEWDynamite at 8pm ET/5pm PT LIVE on TNT, @jmehytr goes one-on-one with @riho_gtmv. Will Hayter be able to soften up Riho before her #AEW Women’s World Title shot against @RealBrittBaker? https://t.co/QOZ4uSHAuC

Another singles match pitting Riho against Jamie Hayter will go down this Wednesday. The Japanese star recently became the new number one contender for the AEW Women’s title. Riho defeated reigning champion Dr. Britt Baker on an episode of Rampage to earn herself a golden opportunity.

Although Riho’s upcoming match against Hayter seems like a placeholder to enhance her storyline with Baker, fans can expect a big swerve during the bout. Baker and Hayter have been developing issues lately. It’s worth recalling that AEW’s resident dentist cost Hayter her match against Thunder Rosa in the TBS tournament.

One can expect a similar angle to go down this week, which would easily give Riho a momentum-gaining victory.

#1 The Young Bucks vs. Rocky Romero and Chuck Taylor on AEW Dynamite

The Young Bucks will return to action this Wednesday for the first time since losing their match at Full Gear last month. The former tag team champions will lock horns with Rocky Romero and Chuck Taylor.

Last week, Cole assaulted Cassidy with the help of Nick and Matt Jackson. That said, Romero and Taylor will be coming out with all the guns blazing to defeat The Young Bucks in their return match.

Whether or not Cole and Cassidy make their presence at ringside remains to be seen, but fans will be in for a treat to watch two of the top teams collide.
