Several former and current WWE Superstars are currently in phenomenal physical shape despite being over 40 years old.
Hundreds of thousands of people dream of having shredded abs. Many exercises and diets are posted on the internet daily to help these people achieve that objective.
While it is easier to maintain an athletic body in the younger years of one’s life, it gets much harder past forty years old. According to Healthline, as people enter their 40s, the path to abs has become more and more a result of commitment and hard work.
Several former and current WWE Superstars in their 40s have proven to have the commitment needed to maintain an athletic body. They also put in the hard work. As a result, they are currently in nearly perfect shape with killer abs. Some of these former and current wrestlers also guide their fans to follow in their footsteps, posting workouts and healthy diets on their social media. They also launched fitness apps and training CDs.
Here are five current/former WWE Superstars who are 40+ years old but have impressive shredded abs.
#10. WWE Hall of Famer Torrie Wilson
Torrie Wilson is probably in better shape now than she was during her wrestling days. The 46-year-old was a fitness competitor and tried to pursue an acting career before joining WCW in 1999. Two years later, she debuted in WWE as part of The Alliance during the Invasion angle.
Wilson spent nearly seven years in WWE before retiring in mid-2008. Following her retirement, the former WWE Diva returned to work in the fitness industry. She became a web-based fitness instructor and blogger. The WWE Hall of Famer is currently the CEO of FITTENSITY, which aims at helping 40+ women get fit.
“I’m going to share the secrets I use at age 45 to stay in the best shape of MY life,” Wilson promised her clients on FITTENSITY’s official website.
The former wrestler is indeed in the best shape of her life. Although she looked great during her time in WWE, she had never had solid and shredded abs like she has today. Wilson’s abs have received many compliments from her followers and fans on Instagram.
#9. WWE Superstar Finn Balor
Finn Balor is one of the most in-shape WWE Superstars on the current roster. Despite turning 40 last July, the former Universal Champion continues to take great care of his body.
Balor’s shredded abs are eye-catching. In an interview with News.com.au a few years ago, the former NXT Champion revealed the secret behind his washboard abs.
“It’s a very simple answer, how to get my abs so defined. I have a very healthy diet of a lot of laughter. If you laugh all the time, you’re consistently flexing your abdominals all the time. You can be doing abs all day long. Watch a lot of comedy, listen to funny TV shows and podcasts and have a general positive outlook on life and Bob’s your uncle,” he said.
The Irish superstar recently moved from SmackDown to Monday Night RAW in the 2021 WWE Draft. Earlier this month, he participated in Team RAW’s victory over Team Smackdown at the Survivor Series.
#8. WWE legend Batista
Batista is a multi-time WWE Champion. He signed with Vince McMahon’s company in 2000 and made his main roster debut two years later on SmackDown. He spent a decade in the company before leaving in 2010.
The Animal returned to WWE in 2013 and departed again a year later. He, nonetheless, made a comeback once more in 2018 before finally retiring in April 2019.
During his pro wrestling time, the 52-year-old had an intimidating muscular figure. However, he was never as shredded as he is today. The former WWE World Heavyweight Champion explained how he changed up his training routine following his departure from WWE.
“When I was with WWE I was doing a lot more weight training. It was a different look because I had a different character. For film roles, and life in general, I’ve switched to a more cardio-based workout routine,” he told Men’s Health a few years ago.
Batista is currently a Hollywood movie and TV star. He recently appeared in Army of the Dead, See, and Army of Thieves.
#7. WWE legend John Cena
John Cena is another WWE Superstar over 40 years old who is currently in great physical shape. Like Batista, Cena has also successfully made the transition to Hollywood. Nonetheless, he continues to make sporadic WWE appearances.
The leader of the Cenation returned to WWE last July at Money in the Bank after 15 months of absence to confront Universal Champion Roman Reigns. The two wrestlers squared off at SummerSlam for the big blue belt, but Cena failed to defeat The Tribal Chief.
During his latest WWE appearances, Cena looked in a good physical condition and had ripped abs. In an interview with Men’s Health a few years ago, the 44-year-old revealed the secret to keeping himself in the best shape.
“Consistency is key. I hate overcomplicating stuff (…) I train like an off-season football athlete. My schedule is all about resistance. It’s either a push-pull day or an Olympic lifting day,” he said.
Cena is currently focusing on his projects outside WWE. He is now working on a few movies and TV shows. The 16-time world champion has not disclosed when he will return to WWE.
#6. WWE Hall of Famer Trish Stratus
Despite retiring nearly a decade and a half ago, WWE Hall of Famer Trish Stratus is still in tremendous physical shape.
The 45-year-old spent six years in WWE between 2000 and 2006. The former fitness model then launched her own yoga studio and released fitness DVDs.
The former fitness model has also maintained her athletic body despite giving birth to two children. In an interview with Best Health Magazine, the seven-time Women’s Champion disclosed that her diet is a whole food one. She also added that she avoids processed food.
Stratus recently posted a photo of her insanely shredded abs to her Instagram account. She commented on the picture stating that she is always ready.
The WWE Hall of Famer has made several WWE appearances since her retirement in 2006. Her last match came nearly two years ago against Charlotte Flair at SummerSlam in 2019. Nonetheless, Sasha Banks has recently been urging Stratus to return to WWE and face her.
#5. WWE Hall of Famer Edge
Edge is one of the most accomplished WWE Superstars in history. Nonetheless, after spending 15 years in the company, he would be forced to retire due to injury. While many people thought that the 48-year-old would never return to the squared circle, he made a triumphant comeback last year.
The Rated-R Superstar is currently part of the active WWE roster. Since his return to Vince McMahon’s company, Edge has been in phenomenal shape. His shredded six-pack, in particular, has caught the eye of the WWE Universe.
In an interview with Muscle and Fitness magazine, the Hall of Famer revealed how he got himself in such shape.
“At first what I did and leading up to the Rumble, I did my own workouts. The way I would start my is I would always do my core and abs first to get it done, get it out of the way. It also warmed me up, especially the plank routine I do. By the end of that I’m already dripping sweat. That gets everything going, it gets my heart rate up. And what I want to try and do is keep my heart rate high. Obviously, you know, I don’t want to take any breaks, so I start off with the core with abs, with hanging leg raises, with scissor kicks, with ab curl ups. You know, rotation stuff,” he said.
Edge has not competed in WWE for nearly a month. In his last match, he defeated Seth Rollins inside Hell in a Cell at Crown Jewel.
#4. WWE legend The Rock
The Rock is arguably the greatest WWE performer of all time. He is also probably one of the fittest former wrestlers today.
The 49-year-old former WWE Superstar turned Hollywood star has been working on a movie called “Black Adam” in the past few months. While preparing for his role, The Brahma Bull looked more cut than ever.
In an Instagram post, The Rock spoke of how his new acting role has impacted his diet and training routine.
“Been working extremely hard dieting, training and conditioning unlike any other role of my entire career. Manipulating water, sodium, cardio but also having to push and pull real iron to have dense, dry, detailed muscle. It’s a real science that takes months and months to dial it all in with my strength & conditioning coach @daverienzi who keeps a very watchful eye, constantly fine tuning our strategy daily,” he wrote.
The Brahma Bull has not competed in WWE since defeating Erick Rowan at WrestleMania 32. He recently starred in the movie “Red Notice,” which is now streaming on Netflix.
#3. WWE Superstar Sheamus
Sheamus has recently been in great shape. The 43-year-old has solid and shredded abs, which he attributed to following an effective diet plan.
Besides his diet, the Irish wrestler trains intensively. He also hosts a YouTube show called “Celtic Warrior Workouts.” On his show, Sheamus invites other WWE Superstars to showcase their training routines.
In a recent interview with the Out Of Character podcast, the former United States Champion stated that he is now in better shape than he was ten years ago.
Sheamus recently moved from Monday Night RAW to SmackDown in the 2021 WWE Draft. The Celtic Warrior was part of the blue brand’s team in the 5-on-5 men’s Survivor Series elimination match, in which Team RAW came out victorious.
#2. WWE Hall of Famer Kurt Angle
WWE Hall of Famer Kurt Angle has been an athlete for almost his entire life. Hence, he has never stopped training and taking care of his body despite retiring three years ago. The former WWE Champion is now 52 years old and has impressively shredded abs.
In an interview with bodybuilding.com, the former WWE Champion disclosed how his training routine has changed since his Olympic days.
“Now I do more body sculpting with good cardio. This training is not as hardcore as my Olympic days but it’s still intense and works well for what I need. I keep my condition up and try to maintain lean muscle so I can have a decent look to my physique,” he said.
The WWE Hall of Famer hung up his boots following a loss against Baron Corbin at WrestleMania 35. Since then, he has made a few sporadic WWE appearances.
#1. WWE Superstar Bobby Lashley
Bobby Lashley probably has the most impressive physique in WWE today. The Almighty is in the best shape of his life, and he likes to show it off every week on Monday Night RAW.
In an interview with Times Live in 2019, the former WWE Champion disclosed the details of his training.
“Training for wrestling now is a lot different you know‚ it’s not that bodybuilder style training that it looks [like]‚ Even though I look like I have more of a bodybuilding frame‚ that’s just because of my diet. But for me‚ I train hard and I train short (…) I do about an hour of hard training and then sometimes during the day I do about 30 minutes of some kind of skill training whether it’s footwork training‚ whether it’s jump rope ‚ whether it’s boxing‚ whether it’s something else like that,” he said.
Despite his insane abs, the 45-year-old has revealed that he does not follow a specific diet plan. He stated that he only eats clean.
“I’m a firm believer of not putting myself through these kinds of weird diets that everybody talks about (…) You have to understand your body. People say ‘why can’t you eat doughnut?’ There’s a reaction that your body has when you put in a lot of sugar. I just don’t like it so much. So I eat clean but it’s not because I’m trying to follow any kind of diet. It’s just because I’m trying to put in the fuel that my body needs,” he added.
Lashley was a member of Team RAW that defeated Team SmackDown last Sunday at Survivor Series. He also defeated Rey and Dominik Mysterio in a handicap match the following night on the Red Brand.
